This June, the Seoul Metropolitan Government (SMG) is set to unveil the Moon of Seoul, a moon-shaped tethered gas (helium) balloon that will take visitors to 150m above ground in Yeouido, Seoul, providing citizens with a truly engaging airborne experience.
Each round trip will take around 15 minutes, with a capacity of 30 passengers. The balloon will rise as high as 100 to 150m above ground, depending on the weather conditions. At first glance, the Moon of Seoul looks like a hot air balloon. However, the balloon is filled with helium gas, and connected to the ground by cables. Its vertical trips are powered by the buoyancy of the helium gas and an electric mechanism.
The Moon of Seoul welcomes visitors from Tuesday to Sunday, between 12 PM and 10 PM. An adult ticket costs KRW 25,000 (not a final price), along with discounts for persons with disabilities, persons of distinguished service to the State, and other groups. * Maintenance work on Mondays

The making of the Moon of Seoul began in January this year. The balloon will be set up on the Yeouido Park Grassy Field by June. The city plans to ensure its safety by conducting test flights for more than a week following the installation. The Official launch is set in late June, with the specific date to be determined based on the overall weather conditions, avoiding heavy rain and typhoons.
Offering a chance to enjoy the nighttime view of the Hangang River and the city, the Moon of Seoul is expected to be one of its key landmarks.
